General Info

Tec diving opens up the opportunity to go deeper, explore more of the ocean available to us. Aqaba is littered with wrecks, 28 in total, 2 of which are out of reach of recreational divers. Making tec diving in Aqaba perfect for both tec and wreck enthusiasts alike. All 28 of these wrecks have been sunk especially for divers and are in exceptional condition. They are described as some of the most picturesque wrecks in the red sea.

More Tec Diving In Aqaba

The majority of the dive sites in Aqaba are within the Aqaba Marine Park (AMP), allowing you to explore more than one dive site at once. Tec diving in Aqaba opens up this possibility massively.

The Al Shorouk lies 240m from the shore, start off the dive by swimming out to the Al Shorouk (35-58m). On the way back you have the C-130 Hercules airplane, 150m from the shore (12-17m). Then just 80m from shore you have The Tank (6-8m), a perfect place for your deco stop. If you don’t want to stay in one place for your deco stop, adjacent to The Tank is also the Seven Sisters dive site. A great place to swim around shallow corals.

You don’t have to go deep, want to see the most famous shipwreck in Aqaba? The Cedar Pride is just 180m from the shore, (12-27m). The Tarmac Five is a little deeper, just 20m South East of the Cedar Pride. Start off with Tarmac Five, back for Cedar Pride, the onto adjacent dive sites. Japanese Gardens is a popular site here in Aqaba, south of the Cedar Pride, with an option of even making this into a drift dive and following the currents south to Gorgone One.

Dive Centres Offering Tec Diving In Aqaba

The options currently available for tec diving in Aqaba are; Dive Aqaba, Arab Divers & Aqaba Pro Divers. One big thing to mention is that you are not allowed to dive alone or solo in Aqaba, mainly due to it’s close proximity with bordering countries. This means that you must dive with a guide.

I got in touch with all dive centres offering tec diving in Aqaba. The prices listed are for Twin Tanks, 50% Deco Stage + Guide.

Where Can I Learn To Tec Dive?

Here is information on the 3 courses to get you started in your tec diving adventure. You can continue continue your education in Aqaba with a certification with a no-depth limit (Tec Trimix Diver) or down to 65m (Tec Trimix 65).

At the time of getting in touch with Arab Divers, they informed me they were busy for the next few months, but put me in touch with a friend (so prices may vary a little). That being said, I assume he will be working through Arab Divers, as you cannot freelance in Aqaba.

Aqaba Pro Divers (from shore)

PADI Tec 40 – 450 JoD
PADI Tec 45 – 450 JoD
PADI Tec 50 – 450 JoD

1200 JoD for all 3 courses.

9 days out on the boat (lunch included)

Dive Aqaba also provides 2 unique courses, Advanced Wreck diver and the first PADI Tec Rec specialty in the world, Taiyong Diver. Pre-requisites for both these courses are PADI Tec 50.

Arab Divers (from shore)

PADI Tec 40 – 530 JoD
PADI Tec 45 – 530 JoD
PADI Tec 50 – 550 JoD

Wasn’t able to receive get an answer for the price of all 3 courses combined. The communication from Arab Divers was very disappointing, having to ask some questions several times to receive an answer. I was not made to feel like a valued customer.

My Recommendation

If you are willing to pay a little bit more, Dive Aqaba would definitely be the place to go. The instructor from Aqaba Pro Divers was actually trained by Dive Aqaba. Moreover, tec diving from the beach is possible but definitely better experienced from a boat (especially with the extra equipment you will be carrying).
